You might recall an earlier post I made, about the Texas Legislature on track to abolish the Railroad Commission.... Unfortunately, SB 655 never made it to the Governor's desk. The Senate had passed the bill, and it was reported to the House. They made amendments to it and passed it with the amendments which the Senate did not agree to. So a conference committee was appointed. And that is just as far as they got. The session ended before anything was conferred on.
Now, they were able to stir themselves to extend its existence one more biennium. SECTION 1.07 of SB 652 changed the sunset date for the Railroad Commission to September 1, 2013. So, they will be around for a while yet.
And yes, I know this is not exactly news, as this happened June of last year. I just happened to notice I had a post about SB 655 and the potential changes to the RRC, and of course, knew that didn't happen. Maybe there can meaningful reform and improvement of the RRC during the next Legislative session.
