The January 24 Corinth MUD #1 board meeting has come and gone - and the board did NOT pass a resolution to dissolve the MUD. I recall that after the City Council voted to dissolve the MUD, and the MUD went out and passed around a petition to reinstate the MUD, the board suggested that if we (the council) would repeal our dissolution ordinance, they would dissolve the MUD on January 24th. They didn't.
We never needed to repeal the ordinance - once the petition was certified, under texas law the ordinance was suspended. Our choice at that point is to drop it (repeal) or call an election. We passed the ordinance dissolving the MUD in response to a tax levy by an organization that no longer had any purpose (the bonds they administered were all paid off). The tax levy was brought to our attention by residents that expected such taxes to cease. So, the fact that some residents desire to perpetuate the MUD (as evidenced by their petition to force the repeal of our ordinance, effectively reinstating the MUD indefinitely) seems a good reason to have an election and let the voice of the residents in the MUD be heard directly.
Perhaps the MUD will dissolve prior to the election. Only time will tell on that. What of the approximately $280,000 dollars the MUD has? I hope that the residents of the MUD get most of the money back. That is also up to the MUD board now, and only time will tell on that.
